Impelsys Helps Marshall Cavendish Digital (MCD) Earn Top Ranking from Booklist Online
MCD Makes 2008 List of “20 Best Bets for Student Researchers”
New York, NY (January 15, 2009) – Impelsys, a leading provider of electronic content delivery solutions in the global publishing market, today announced that Marshall Cavendish Digital (MCD), an Impelsys solution powered by Impelsys’ iPlatform technology, has earned a spot on Booklist Online’s “20 Best Bets for Student Researchers 2008.”
Booklist Online has lauded MCD for its rejection of traditional annual subscription renewals and purchasing mandates in favor of allowing organizations to browse and purchase from a collection of 20 titles, including Diseases and Disorders, Drugs and Society, Exploring Technology and Reptiles and Amphibians.
“Marshall Cavendish offers the perfect blend of credible content, dramatic images and easy-to-use navigation, all of which are invaluable to young readers, teachers and librarians,” said Sameer Shariff, CEO, Impelsys. “Marshall Cavendish’s print titles are considered high-quality products by the market worldwide. We, at Impelsys, employed our technology and e-publishing expertise to create the same quality and user experience on a digital platform.”
After evaluating multiple technology services, MCD partnered with Impelsys based on the company’s technology expertise, and experience in delivering reliable solutions for leading publishers worldwide. Impelsys worked closely with MDC to devise an online strategy for transitioning print content and boosting sales.
Because iPlatform is hosted and maintained by Impelsys, there is no infrastructure investment. The result is a cost-effective method to leverage existing print content and create online products at affordable costs and in short time frames.
Shariff continued, “We are pleased that Marshall Cavendish has entrusted us with their digital strategy, and we are proud that our solution has helped the company achieve this recognition.”
MCD ranks high on expert-developed lists and reviews because young and adult users can easily access, search, store, transmit and print information from the site. For example, an unlimited number of concurrent users can access MCD remotely and conduct searches within a single database or across all databases or browse by title or category.
Once users select a category, they can browse relevant articles, photographs, drawings, maps timelines and primary sources. Visual resources are organized into galleries with items listed adjacent to the article in which they appear. Article pages feature highlighted search terms, article overviews, printing and e-mail tools, bookmarks, citation options, a dictionary and a space for taking notes.
Within MyFolder, users can view and edit saved images and bookmarked articles, while the site’s image library invites users to zoom in and our and print images along or with related text.
