A Look Back at the Recently Concluded Frankfurt Book Fair 2017

Frankfurt Book Fair, the paramount event of the publishing world concluded its 69th edition on 15th October 2017. The fair this year, which saw 4000 events in total and 286,425 unique visitors (3 percent increase over the previous edition), established itself as an event not only significant for the industry, but also as a barometer of global socio-economic developments. The opening of the fair by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron and being attended by several important politicians signifies the political importance of the event.

Frankfurt Book Fair once again claimed its position as the most significant event of the publishing industry, surpassing all previous figures and witnessing a host of political and industry figures with international clout. Dan Brown presented his new thriller “Origin” at the event, presence of authors like Margaret Atwood, Cecelia Ahern, Paula Hawkins, Nicholas Sparks, Daniel Kehlmann and Paul Maar made the occasion a celebration of literature. Guest of Honour, France was at the centre of the Frankfurt Book Fair 2017. “Francfort en Français” concluded the largest and most significant cultural project that France has ever organised with partners in Germany. During the week, 180 francophone authors met their readers at some 350 events.

The fair is also the most important meeting point and showcase of technologies that are shaping the publishing and education industry. At Hall 4.2 visitors could see some of the most advanced technological innovations in the industry at work, an interactive ideas laboratory on the future of learning, “World of Learning Lab” was organised by the European Learning Industry Group (ELIG).

Teeming with visitors, Impelsys’ booth at J-55, Hall 4.2 had become a hub of discussion, the feedback on iPublishCentral Scholar was described as ‘positive and great’ by Sameer Shariff, Founder and CEO of Impelsys. iPublishCentral Health, a new platform for digital delivery of healthcare learning resources also drew positive response, it was evident on the various meetings between Sameer Shariff and publishers. He said that, “The event also provided us with a platform to interact with our existing customers and further strengthen our relationships.”
